It is a story I heard during a Friday Khutbah at Miftaahul Uloom by imam imran two years ago, and it is a lecture that always stayed in my head...not many lectures stay in my head the way this one did. It was a lecture about the story of Imam Malik Dinar and his path to repentance. It is a scary and at the same time beautiful and inspirtional story that brings out tears to the beleivers eyes. Humdallah I was able to come across this lecture all over again, and now I am sharing it with you all.

It is the story of Imam Malik Dinar , who used to be an alcholhic, and he kept trying to stop, and he had a daughter and he tried to stop because of her and then this daughter whom he really loved has died at the age of 2. Then Malik goes back to this sin, and then he sees his daugher in a dream, and he hears the following aya, and he then he woke up from the dream and he sincerly asks for repentance and subhanallah the next day as he walks to the mosque to talk Hassan Albasri, the first thing he hears is the same aya ! Subahanlalah: the aya is (which I have heard twice from the same imam!)


57:16

Has the time not come for those who have believed that their hearts should become humbly submissive at the remembrance of Allah and what has come down of the truth? And let them not be like those who were given the Scripture before, and a long period passed over them, so their hearts hardened; and many of them are defiantly disobedient.
